I wasn't there last night - tummy bug. What was the ceremony like? Any thoughts on the winners?
congrats on your win last night scamp, always thought your levi's stuff deserved a bit more than it got.
is there a list of the BIG silver winners anywhere. I'm mildly interested, but Campaign's odd decision to reveal all in a £35 quid book that only a winner's mum/client-licking CEO would buy is barmy. It used to be that the winners would be featured in a booklet in the next day's Campaign and the whole industry would know. Now that benefit is out the window and it makes me give only a pebble of shit about the whole thing. Congratulations to you, Campaign.
Campaign Magazine cost £10 today. Discuss.
that iLager thing won gold. Discuss.
George: It's a fucking disgrace - presumably they need the extra cash to cover the cost of the awards. Oh no - that's right, they recouped that in the cost of the tickets. They just needed a bit of cash for their birthday.Anon 2.17: Lawsuit
Campaign, I know you read this, so can I just say that you've managed to amalgamate several awards that we gave a bit of a toss about into one BIG thing that nobody cares about. How did you do that? Was it:Planners and other cocks on the juries?Too many media for anyone to really focus on or care about (I know this applies to D&AD, but they've grown organically and gradually)? No award winner pamphlet?Cynically charging a ton for your pointless rag and its regurgitation of old biogs (Ah, those two Colin Millward stories, they never get dull no matter how many thousand times you hear them)?Awarding that stolen ipint?Being the umpteenth scheme to give Gorilla/Cake/Here Come the Girls a prize?Do you know why D&AD works? It at least pretend to be about 'stimulation, not congratulation'. You lot don't have a fucking clue.
anon 2.22I take it you won fuck all last night then.Jolly hard cheese old chap.
the entire selection was probably a black magic process, but the Press Gold and Silver for fashion are absolutely UFOs for me. I could've understood some Dimitri Daniloff production winning for the simple sake of the stunning image but this was far too much to take.
WHAT WON?I haven't got a clue as usual.
iPint Gold - What the f**k? I don't care if it ws stolen - but it is a gimmick not an idea. This makes digital look bad. DM9 DDB do the real digital stuff not this iPiss piss takes. I need a pee now.
C'mon. WHAT WONNNNNN
oh god, but is it such a hard thing to simply access this: http://campaignbigawards.com/2008/?listByMedaiCha=dz&submit=List+By+Media+Channels ?
Nitro won gold for their Rooney/ Dirty Sanchez 'Put it where you want it' integrated campaign. What else won?
for those not versed in the world of digital, try typing "campaign big awards" into google. Amazingly this should help you find winners, shortlists etc. surely it should win an award.

scowling ad was busting a few moves on the dance floor around his silver, that was the highlight of the evening. and wasn't the lamb the toughest thing you've ever eaten. but i guess that didn't bother old bealey.
I've won Gold at Campaign Poster and a few Silvers at the Campaign Press awards. I don't care for the Big awards, they are invisible. Campaign have yet again shown scant regard for the Industry. Shame on them.A complete failure. But congratulations to the winners. Although apart from the Golds, I don't know who or what won.
There are some nice ads on there. I liked the poem from the dead kid TV ad.Otherwise, the whole things feels like it never happened. Maybe it'll grow into itself in the next few years, but the problem is that it feels like another new, unnecessary award show. There are tonnes of multimedia awards, so now Campaign's hat in the ring feels tired and irrelevant. When they did the Press and Poster awards, they were the only ones of their type, and therefore a bit interesting for being different. Now they're just last in the queue behind D&AD, Cannes, One Show, Clios and every other fucker who wants £250 an entry and £200 for a shit dinner.
Love this quote from the judges re the iPint:"We all recognised that it imitated an idea that was already out there," Cridge said. "But we just thought that it was a classic example of an agency finding something interesting, and recognising that by aligning it with a brand like Carling, then it could create an even bigger and better idea."You get that? It's not 'stealing', it's 'aligning.'
Hi SCAMP,Is there any chance of you doing a poll on stress in the workplace? Advertising is renown for being a high stress profession. I wonder if anyone knows anybody that left as result of the stress? or anyone that gets very stressed themselves? As a creative that's not unacquainted with feeling stressed, I'm interested to know whether others feel the pressure. What do you think?J
The real burning question about last night Scampy - was it 'the trots', or the other end?We need to know.
Yeah Scamp - was it fork or spoon?
Let's just say I couldn't have gone to the Grosvenor and risked having to wait for a cubicle. Why they get so busy, I don't know.J - NICE IDEA on the stress poll. I will follow it up.
Yeah i'm always at the Grosvenor queueing for a shit.
A big slap on the back for your award simon. After all, that's all you care about isn't it? Awards, awards, awards...
7.21 - I care about good work. And we all want to be perceived as being good at what we do.But unlike sprinters or weightlifters, there is no objective way to measure creativity. It's opinions. So it comes down to whose opinion should we listen to? Mine? Yours? Your dog's?The system of a jury of industry leaders, while imperfect, is the best system we have. Maybe without the planners though.
Seconded.Planners are generally dreadful people who have little to contribute but enormously high opinions of themselves.A dull and irritating combination if ever there was one.
If thinking up songs about 'the way to integration', or devising genius lines like 'South Africa. It's possible', or having to make the logo a tenny bit bigger is just too stressful for you sensitive flowers, maybe you should leave advertising and get a job in bomb disposal, or brain surgery. Or just toughen the fuck up.
I didn't win anything at the Big awards so I think they were shit. If I'd won I'd think they were brilliantly arranged and that the juries were a collection of extremely wise people.
well deserved golds with the exception of the ipint. Can't believe Campaign didn't have the balls to say with all that's going on around it to suspend it from this years awards. What will happen if they are successfully sued for millions, will it be like Ben Johnson having to return his Gold Medal. Cheats.
Mark Cridge's comments in Campaign about Ipint are a disgrace, an example of BMB's ingenuity WTF???Hope that spot of ingenuity costs them $12.5 million and their jobs.
I am STAGGERED at Lynx mobile stuff getting awarded. It really is a terrible as the rest of the Lynx stuff at the moment. And it has no practical use whatsoever. I wish I could understand why phone apps are all about gimmicks and distraction when ultimately phones have so much potential to be useful...I'm sure judges will learn soon enough.
The awards were shit. Crap crowd, boring night.Maybe I'm thick but how come some ads got gold AND silver in the same categoryWhat's the point in that?
they probably wanted to satisfy "everyone", namely both the ones who though the entries were great and the ones who thought they were very good. Is it a wide-angle attitude?
What's with the "This is not a plastic bag" integrated campaign winning. Didn't Luella Bartley do that 3 years ago with her canvas tote bag that read"This is not a plastic bag"? Where's the BIG idea in that? As bad a case of nicking as Brummy McGuinness Bungay's iPiss. And BTW Scamp, how about a post on how to weather a downturn? I was there in '91. It wasn't pretty.
It's not pretty for the ATL boys and girls, but the digital chaps have just seen a 21% increase inn ad spend last quarter.
Can anyone tell me what's direct about the Gold direct winner - 'Flora'?
True - have no clue - is this Direct? or TV? Or is TV the new direct or direct the new TV?http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=m-hCuYjvw2I
Direct is supposed to drive a response this doesn't.Hey Scamp, isn't this a BBH ad? Are the team who won as mystified as us as to why they won?
re: is flora direct or tv?it's direct. it was shot specifically to be emailed to the 50,000 competitors of the london marathon the day after the race. they were then urged to forward it on to their friends as a way of getting them to pay up sponsor money.
Thought this would be of interest. It seems that yet again 'The Big Man' Dave Trott can't take criticism.I posted the comment below in response to his 'My Heroes' post (14th Oct). So far, he has refused to show my comment five times;Funny that 'everything is being taken so seriously' Dave, especially when advertising legends have students in to their agency to rant and rave at themfor four hours solid and tell them that they're useless, that they know nothing, that they should get out of advertising unless their attitude improves, then holds a mock gun (fingers) to their head and says 'get a job now you c*nt'...You are right though when you say that 'everyone only cares about awards...it's the only stamp of approval you need';"I was having a hard time getting an out of work copywriter hired, so I lied about it.He went on to win 4 D&AD Silver Awards.""John and I worked together 10 years. We won some D&AD Silvers and even a Gold together
12.44PM Thanks for the clarification Billybonds. Campaign missed that essential detail out of their awards booklet.
I've just seen the BIG awards book. 30 quid! 30 flaming quid! Do me a favour!!!!! Will anyone bother to keep it? What a wasted opportunity.
I think it's time they composed a team song -- everything shows they'd have the talent.
I just think it's funny how nearly every entry from BBH won something.Who was the awards chairman again? Oh yeh...that's right.
2:24, come oooooon, look who has won the TV Gold AND Silver for Fashion and Beauty, with an ad that's way worse than Levi's Dangerous Liaisons. This doesn't count, I know, let's zoom in an crop only what we want to see. Most of the awards were unreasonably distributed, let's not make it a BBH objectivity failure and an authority abuse matter.
ummm...the Robinson's Press Silver is a load of utter gash.
it's like the MTV European awards (whoever shows up win) except more corrupted. There were widespread whispers that whoever were on the judging panel won something for their agency.
2:46 Yes, it is, among many others. Don't even know how they managed to sell it. I guess that was the actual brilliant thing about it.
It says in the back of the book that BBH designed the BIG trophy, but it doesn't say which foot they used to do it.
anon 11.50 amhttp://www.clickz.com/showPage.html?page=3630219digital ad spend bubble is bursting. anyone else being made redundant or is it just me? time for that credit crunch survival guide scamp, quickly!
Right, I’ve never been on a jury but I’ve heard loads of apocryphal tales about rigging which I’ve taken with a pinch of. Is it really as bad as people say or is it just bitter bastards using injustice as a mask for their lack of talent? You notice on blogs and in campaign that people tend to look for the good in work by some agencies but look for reasons to kick others, however spurious. Does this occur in juries too? Anyway. It’s better to deserve an award and not win than it is to win an award you don’t deserve. Mark Twain said that. He’s full of shit him.
Take a look at the Robinson's Press Silver and imagine it was done at Grey.Would it have won?Of course not. Does that answer your question?
I'd say most of the finalist and winning entries have a problem with the quality level, which either shows a very low level of the advertising market or makes the whole selection unreliable and therefore all the awards insignificant. If it's the first case, complain less, create more. Everybody. If it's the second, then all the cheating efforts were in vain, no one will ever care about those awards anyway.
It happens when ads are similar to what's gone before. Nobody mentioned that Honda making a car out of fun stuff was like Skoda making a car out of lovely stuff. But if any other car manufacturer had done that they would have been crucified. There's an ad for a department store by Adam and Eve that uses people as moths. Nobody has mentioned that Harvey Nics have already been there (albeit in a slightly different way).Has it always been one rule for one and one rule for another?
I think the patchiness of the work is down to the patchiness of the jury on campaign awards.instead of the best creative work being rewarded it seems to be about other criteria.
is it me or are there alot of bitter people out there
I think it's worth congratulating the placement team that came up with the Jake Courage Xbox spot, and not the team that's getting all the credit now for it.
