Being a cynical hard-bitten atheist pedant, I don't like happiness, optimism, twinkly Santas, or people coming together to teach the world to sing.
However, I do like weird scruffy magicians who have suitcases that unfold into organs played by monsters. And this ad has that in spades.
I happen to know that the creative team are French - congrats on a fine ad, D&T - and is it just me, or is there something a bit French about this ad? A bit Daft Punk, perhaps?
So here's my All-Time Top 3 Coke Ads:
1= This One
1= The Grand Theft Auto one
3 Polar Bears
Agree?

Is This The Best Coke Ad Ever?

Brilliant. We should all make ads this great. What a joy.
Hey, no worries. It's easily done...
Ballons is better than Polar Bears I think. So is Happiness Factory. Still let's not forget the orginal hilltop and, of course, Mean Joe Green.
Feels French you reckon? It's as British as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OfbpHLbFUI
Calm down Scamp.
The music is extremely annoying and the obligatory '100 extras for epic feel' can't dance for toffee.
Best Coke ad ever? Surely you're just winding us up??
Better than Swimming elephant? Blind West Ham fan? Mean Joe Green? Blimps chasing a Coke around Manhatten?
It's a lovely thing indeed.
Celebrating the fact that some stuff (Coke, chocolate) just make you feel a bit happier is a good thing after the whole obesity-debate-imposed austerity.
But my favourite is sort of this fella's predecessor ... heading down to the Happiness Factory ...

French cartooning/animating is the best in the world, check out Gobelins reel: http://www.gobelins.fr/galerie/animation/
Remember, those are student films.
It's easy to forget, because it only ran once or twice. But it's my favorite.
What Goes Around Comes Around

I happen love optimism and joy. My only fear is that it's becoming overused.
what's so great about this? i actually find it somewhat annoying to be honest. i have no desire whatsoever to watch it again, and i think that's always a good test for judging ads
No, but close
1. happiness factory
2. grand theft auto
3. this one
The Mystical, Magical... Gonk Organ!
Yeah, I enjoyed that. People being drawn together by a load of fizzy bollocks. 10/10 for "metaphorical interpretation of product". Can't quiiiiite make out if they're children he's luring in though...
"Open hapiness" is still a bit ruddy Christian/religious though, isn't it? And that man's got long hair and a beard. I bet there's 12 Gonks in there too if you count 'em! (I'm offended! Call the ASA!)
Looks brilliant though. All the better for not being condescendingly sentimental and pious like most Coke ads.
(I keep feeling the need to post on here this week... dunno what's got into me)
although pretty good. but the best Coke ad ever is this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfU17niXOG8
now spit on it.
Any ad that features guitar playing mini Ewoks is great, but can't help but keep thinking it's a 2009 version of Mulligan and O'hare.

No, 'fraid I don't agree Scamp.
The best one is here...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8H5263jCGg
Yeah yeah yeah?
Shit shit shit...
Ben, Scamp does this from time to time (posts the same thing) as a power exercise. It's like you're both in prison. Occasionally, Scamp comes and 'violates' you just to remind you who's higher in the fascinating blog chart that he publishes every month. You're reduced to the role of Tim Robbins in the Shawshank Redemption, desperately trying to fight off his advances with a broom.
Are you serious? I thought the main guy looks too much like a kiddy fiddler and the kids all behave like wacco's. I just felt it was a poor commercial and could have been much better. Also are you allowed to advertise such products to kids?
Or is this Coke/Mother's gorilla?
I hate everything
Sorry, I hate it. It's just another fucking cool-happy-beautiful-people-dancing-and-being-cool-happy-and-beautiful-(and probably fucking)-whilst-drinking Coke-ad. All they've done is update the setting.
This makes no sense at all - i bloody love it. Although this coke one is by far my favourite:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiMf5cCDy1I
no, it's shit.
I still maintain that the 10 second "unhuggables" for Euro 2008 was Coke's highlight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oyv3bVV92c
That said, I'm impressed that for the first 25 seconds that ad basically does nothing, then goes crazy for the remaining 30 seconds. Cant be easy to get the client to pay for a minutes TV space for what could be a 30 sec ad. Respect.
This guy's the Pied Piper of 2009
Anything he puts in my mouth, he's gonna lose.
x
To give it it's full title this is Best Coke Ad Ever Done By Some Old DDB Mates Of Scamp. We know how he loves to big them up. It's good. It's fun. It's not as good as the Drink Football work
No. Trucks is. Not THAT trucks. This truck (the only Coke commercial that anyone with a proper job cares about) .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOveJlX1NF8&feature=related
Crikey, I'd forgotten how many good commercials Coke have actually done over the years. Unforgivable of me to forget about the 'Eat Football' one where a bloke commentates for his blind mate. Swimming Elephant was great too. And Nagi Noda's 'What Goes Around Comes Around'... very very cool.
But sorry, you're not going to persuade me on Happiness Factory. It's not magical, it's just twee, isn't it?
The fighting parade balloons got the only craft pencil at D&AD this year.
So I hear.
And what about the one where that singer goes for a bike ride through Lidl? That was really, really, really good.
Or really, really, really shit.
One of the two.
The Unhuggables were great stings, very entertaining.
I'm wondering when the bubble is going to burst on this 'weird for the sake of being weird' approach to advertising.
It does look great though.
I'm guessing I'm the only one who liked the latest Coke Christmas campaign by Mother?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_YcMv_Yl7c
I'm a cynical cunt, but this makes me smile.
That was Diet Coke Ben, so don't know if it counts in this discussion. Most of the Coke Zero stuff has been dire too, I remember their pilot ad coming top of Charly Brooker's top 10 cocks in advertising.
The lesson here: sugar = creativity.
The kid in me remembers:
The Swimming Elephant
The Polar Bears
And…The Christmas Trucks…I SAID THE KID IN ME!!!
I like What Goes Around Comes Around. I like the Happiness factory too but I have a friend who says that it reminds her for a communist parade :)
P.S. And Scamp I don’t think this is the best Coke ad ever…
P.S.S. The worst commercials ever are: Duffy's Diet Coke - they are airing it in my country right now.
And the one they used for the last Christmas I think – with the planes throwing bottles of Cola like it's 1948 in Berlin.
I like the one with Duffy in it.
This ad is an easy wank. Mate, just put some crazy shit over there and then sign Open Happiness. Crap. Lots of other coke ads are a thousand times better, specially GTA and For Everyone. Scamp, I share many opinions with you but I can't understand how can any creative consider this the best coke ad ever. This one is miles away from the top.
I love the idea. Such a cool way at happiness, and really nicely shot. I hope it's in cinemas, becaus eI think it would be amazing on a big screen.
But I found the music annoying...maybe the public will love it.
I don't like it. I can hear the creatives squeezing it out and that sound spoils it for me.
my favourite:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaH5LCK_M4A
I would like one of the animal/pets/unhuman creatures to sit on my desk or just in my handbag and sing to me when ever things don't seem so great.
Brilliant advert. Best though? Not 100% sure yet.
love it....kicking track will make this even more famous
1. this
2. eat, sleep, drink
3. Happiness factory
Well this certainly seems to be dividing opinions...
For me its a load of out Trout...
Trust the French to come up with such twaddle.
Such a dense song, lyrics are so well constructed.
Nowhere near best coke ad, nearer last than first.
Is Scamp on acid again?
What about the Zero ones...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7LMZJ_Fb1g
Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have the Youtube source of inspiration. It is, of course, the Muppaphone from the Muppets, where Marvin Suggs whacks little furry monsters to get a sound, whereas Some Cool Guy Who Does Some Neat Stuff (SCGWSDNS is the 2CK of the noughties) gives them a mere taste of the brown stuff to elicit a performance that would do the three tenors proud.

scamp, you just stop trying sooo desperately to be perceived as "hip" You are not.
This is not the greatest ad coke has made and you know it.
