Your creative director asks you to recommend him a team. Do you suggest someone really good... who'll be a competitive threat when they come? Or do you suggest someone not so good - it will call your judgement into question when they don't do very well. Or do you just ring your mates?

In principle- the team that will be a competitive threat. Competition is good. It'll keep you sharp and makes sure you don't get too comfortable. In theory you should try and work with the best people to help you become even better. In addition, showing sound judgement and gaining a reputation for it is invaluable. It adds to that aura of greatness that surrounds some teams.
In reality- you call your mates. The good ones won't let you down and you're helping them out.
suggest someone really good. and prepare yourself for a battle. could be fun.
talent is contagious. I agree.

ASk him why aren't you being considered for the work?
;-p
Recommend someone good. A bad team WILL reflect on your judgement.
definitely a very good team. and if that team happens to be buddies of yours, well, that's even better.
if you suggest some gifted assholes you will be the bloke who recommended them. and if you recommend some untalented lovelies you will be that bloody bloke as well.
so I would go for the middle. which should be the best AND nicest team. that combination should be pushing, exciting and enjoyable. plus they should like ironic t-shirts.
David Ogilvy: "Hire people who are better than you are and leave them to get on with it."
I don't know anyone better than myself, so I guess there's no dilemma for me.
