the saudi's re-recorded their national anthem in time for the games. if you rewind the award giving ceremony on your sky plus, all that can be heard is a heavily accented voice telling the west to keep making everything out of oil
Subliminal advertising is a daft conspiracy theory that sprang from an unsubstantiated point in The Hidden Persuaders.
People outside the industry love to look for it because they think advertising is an ingeniously, fiendishly clever conspiracy against a defenceless population, like Mugatu trying to brainwash Derek Zoolander to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The truth is that adland is less conspiratorial and the public are much smarter.
Clients find it hard enough to get a packshot in to most ads. Imagine how hard they'd find it to get subliminal messages in.
SCAMP : i have an important question : why is it so hard to hard to get into this industry when the majority of the advertising out there is terrible! and how companies contradict themselves by wanting exceptional creative work in students books but turn out dribble themselves?
Absolutely not, mind you I was too busy to notice as I was admiring my new adidas trainers that I'd bought using my credit card whilst chewing on the last of some delightful chocolates I'd happened to treat myself to.
I didn't notice it while watching the games and I haven't used a visa card yet. also haven't had the urgent desire to purchase any adidas or -yuck- actually eat hershey's chocolate. that stuff still is vile.
so no. and just in case I should have writte yes - well, it didn't work.
Yes the new Merrymite ads look very familiar. Maybe DDB did't know about the Mrrydown campaign cos they've all been on another planet the past 5 years?

I reckon 'yes'
no, the "adidas" symbols on the heads far outdate the adidas logo. DURRRRRRR
Who cares.
Vinny - really like your pennies ads.
Scamp - post them instead of this tripe.
Oh yeah, this stuff is everywhere in New York.
Saw a dog curl one out the other day... could swear he dropped it into the shape of a Nike Swoosh.
I also remember seeing the word 'speedo' on Tom Daley's swimming trunks... shocking!
Do you have too much time on your hands?
This is like that couple having sex in the ice cube scandal that Vance Packard goes on about in 'Hidden Persuaders' but i don't see anything
If it was there, and you didn't notice, it's had it desired effect hasn't it?
Obviously it wasn't good enough. It's the stuff I didn't see that worries me. Now where did I put the tin foil?

nailed on that.
nah. it´s like bigfoot.
I think Paula Radcliffe was advertising Tampax cos her career is going through a bad period
How about your very own Johnnie Walker, Scamp? It comes in Blue, Green, Gold, Black and Red - the exact same colours as the Olympic rings.
Coincidence? I think not.
Cobblers.
rhayter...
are you the very same richard hayter who comments on every ad on brand republic?
No.

That's because getting in is usually down to the creative director loving it. Staying in is usually down to the client loving it.
subliminal advertising worked in 'don't mess with the zohan'
man i want some fizzy bubbly right now

Yes, but also no.
Most of these are tenuous at best.
I prefer the Phelps got silver theories.

Hi Scamp. Sorry if I'm contravening your new rules by going off topic, but I wanted to know what people thought of the new Marmite print campaign:
http://www.brandrepublic.com/Campaign/News/841415/DDB-Marmite-campaign-continues-love-hate-theme/
It seems like a dead cert for awards etc.
But isn't it just Merrydown?
(Feel free to remove this for being off topic).

the reason i don't believe in subliminal advertising is that no fucking client in the world would buy it.
The first one reminded me of the Unilever logo, not of Visa, sadly
